Pieter Lombaard swapped art school for the unpredictable world of filmmaking—and it paid off. Over 24 years, he’s carved out a reputation as a versatile creative force, writing, producing, directing, shooting, and editing for screens of all sizes. Armed with a Postgraduate Diploma in Motion Picture Production, Pieter is now diving deeper into his craft and pursuing a Master’s degree at Tshwane University of Pretoria. While some sing praises for his cinematography and others for his editing, Pieter simply calls it what he loves most: making movies.
Some of Pieter’s career highlights include writing and producing the SAFTA-winning reality show Our House (2010), directing the arthouse shorts RYILCTA and Clarity, and serving as a technical director on the NatGeo Wild series Big Baboon House. He produced the acclaimed feature film The Forgotten Kingdom (2013), worked as Director of Photography on Takalani Sesame Season 11, and shot and edited the International Emmy-nominated Takalani Sesame: Big Feelings special (2024). Pieter has also explored animation projects, contributing sound design to Yellow Daisy Butterfly (2024) and working on the upcoming The Stonemason (2025).
A firm believer in the healing power of movies, Pieter is an ardent supporter of independent cinema. His passion for film has earned him the honour of judging for the SAFTAs and International Emmys. While he values projects with high artistic merit, Pieter also finds inspiration in the unexpected lessons from corporate and commercial work, whether it’s about mining, finance, or sustainable building practices.
