Erentia Bedeker

Erentia Bedeker is a multiple award-winning animator, animation director, and one of the founders of Wreckless Creative, an independent graphic design and animation studio. She works in various forms of stop-motion animation from paper cut-out to carved wooden puppets.

Her two short films The Wild Goose Let a Feather Fall (2016) and Ruby & Roach (2020) screened at numerous international film festivals, and both won multiple awards.

Bedeker’s international collaborations include a commissioned animated poetry film, Today as I Run (2021), directed by American director Julia Huffman for Sierra Club Colorado and an animated music video, Wildlife Cameraman (Summer Farm) (2023), for the Scottish band Constant Follower.

Her short film, The Stonemason, which was part of the Berlinale Durban Talents Animation Lab 2021, is currently in its final stages of post-production and is the first for which she has written the script and produced herself.

Bedeker is one of an emerging generation of young independent women animators in South Africa, where the animation industry is small and commercially oriented. In 2025 she was one of 28 women selected from among 350 applicants to attend Triggerfish and UNESCO’s Creators Lab for women directors in Africa. Through her work, Bedeker aims to create films that soften the world’s sharp edges, blending artistry with storytelling to evoke emotional resonance.
